monument what it feels it is entitled to. Perhaps the word “great” will suffice, though I personally feel that it is a poor substitute. The word “here” in the second sentence, of course, should be eliminated since there are no Mississippians buried on the battlefield at Gettysburg. I believe that the number two suggestion perhaps more clearly follows the viewpoint of the committee, but I will attempt in the next day or two to make suggestion in this regard. I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr. George F. Emory in the hope that he will realize that “their righteous cause” relates to the firm belief which our grandfather had when they enlisted in the armies of the Confederacy. In conclusion, by force of arms the South and its cause were defeated. This defeat however, did not make the cause less righteous to those who fought and died for it. The South has had the most to forgive in this matter and the South ahs forgiven. Let us hope that the North has done likewise. I am delighted to know that Mrs. Sturdivant is improving and sincerely hope that she will continue to do so. With best wishes and highest regards, I am Respectfully yours, Tom P. Brady.
