Summary[edit]

Description
English: Returning from a flight mapping glaciers for Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG), NASA’s Gulfstream III aircraft turns to line up with the runway at Kangerlussuaq airport. At 1.7 million square kilometers, the Greenland ice sheet is three times the size of Texas and contains enough water to raise global sea levels about 6 meters (20 feet) if it were all to melt. And the ice sheet is not just melting from warm air temperatures above; it is also likely being melted from ocean water below, which is the focus of the OMG field campaign. omg.jpl.nasa.gov Image credit: NASA JSC/Richard Clark
