Summary[edit]
Description24Seven- McMurdo Ground Station 11-29 EDT (26305725080).png |
English: Rex Cotten and Ray Funk are in the control center at the NASA McMurdo Ground Station located at Ross Island, Antarctica. This joint partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF), provides communication and tracking services to between 10 - 15 Earth observing NASA and non-NASA missions. The station was upgraded in 2011 to provide support to the large number of future missions, such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-1) scheduled for launch in early 2017. JPSS-1 will follow the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite to maintain continuity of weather and environmental observations. npp.gsfc.nasa.gov/jpss.html
