Summary

[edit]
Description
English: London Transport bus SMS632 (reg. EGN 632J), pictured in Golders Green, Barnet, operating London Buses route 240A, arriving from Mill Hill. SMS632 was withdrawn in June 1978, just two months after this photo was taken. Much else has changed since this view was taken. The scalloped cobbles in the foreground have been replaced by modern bricks and a security booth and barriers have been installed at this entrance to the bus station to prevent motorists from driving in. Wallis's opposite, on the corner of Golders Green Road and Finchley Road, have long since closed, becoming a Tandy store and currently a Carphone Warehouse premises. The next door Nationwide is still there. The shop with the name Williams is now a National Express ticket office. The traffic signals, including the old style pedestrian lights next to the bus have been modernised. The blue paper news stand has moved round the corner and is now larger.
