Title
222A57.JPG roman brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Roman gilded copper alloy circular disc brooch. It has a concentric copper alloy band, surrounding a recess which is 13mm in diameter and which also has a small recess at its centre. It is likely to have held a glass setting which is now missing. The outer edge of the brooch is missing. Traces of gilding survive in the outer field on the front. The brooch is 27mm in diameter and is 4mm in thickness. The pin attachment and catchplate are both incomplete, but traces of two lugs survive. The pin is missing. The base metal has a reddish colour, although it is heavily corroded. It dates to the 3rd century AD.
