English: U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. James O’Donnell, 216th Space Control Squadron information systems security officer (ISSO), works at a computer June 22, 2022, at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif. According to O’Donnell, there are over 1500 controls that are set forth by the National Institute for Standard Technology (NIST) and a requirement to explain in detail how they are meeting each control. (U.S. Space Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Luke Kitterman) “My job is to make sure the weapons system is secure,” said O’Donnell. “When you are dealing with a weapons systems that is this high of a security level, there are a lot of requirements levied on us by higher headquarters. If we don’t meet those, we don’t operate.” |
