Summary[edit]

Description 208-PU-Folder 3b: Roosevelt’s Shangri-La in Maryland Mountains, Thurmont, Maryland. Seventy miles away from the nation’s capital hidden in the Catoctin Mountains was President Roosevelt’s “Shangri-La.” It was his weekend retreat = kept secret until after the war. It was build during the Depression 30’s and was originally one of the three unpretentious public resorts in the National Park. Less than a mile away is Catoctin Furnace where Revolutionary troops forged cannon balls for the Battle of Yorktown. Photo shows: A unidentified bedroom and bath.
