Description

Phylloporus boletinoides A. H. Smith and Thiers

Image location: Franklin Parker Preserve, Chatsworth, New Jersey, USA

both, for complimenting me. Indeed, it’s is a very unique and cool fungus. I have posted P. boletinoides once before (last year I think) and got many commendable comments about it. Since this is a fairly rare find even in the NJ Pine Barrens (about as rare as T. griseocarneus), I decided to post it again (back by popular demand). :-)

We got so much rain this month so far (>10 inches) that even the mycelium is tired of it, and more rain doesn’t necessarily mean more mushrooms anymore! And more rain is on the way!

Roy is right about the time and location for the NEMF next year. NJMA, of which I am a member, will host it together with EPM and WPMC. However, if you happen to be in NJ for whatever reason before then, and are anxious to collect mushrooms in the Pine Barrens (they are usually productive from mid July to late October), you are welcome to give me a buzz to arrange a personal foray. I will take you to my spots. :-)
