English: Treasure Case 2010 T269 Bodkin

Date of Discovery: 30th March 2010

Circumstances of discovery: Whilst searching with a metal detector.

Description: Damaged and incomplete cast silver dress-pin with ear-scoop terminal above a circular loop. There is an undecorated rectangular panel before the rectangular 'eye' opening. There is a worn break part way along the opening. The shaft is missing. In its current condition it is 38.23mm long, 4.89mm wide increasing to 5.41mm wide across the ear-scoop, has a maximum thickness of 2.10mm and weighs 2.45 grams.

Date: Post Medieval - 17th century

Disposition: Disclaimed

The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
