The Erie Canal (NYS Barge Canal) is one of four New York State Canals. All four Canals are working canals. This picture of a dredge and sculls at the intersection of the Erie Canal and the Genesee River in Genesee Valley Park (an Omstead/Vaux designed park was originally photographed on film. The bridges date from the Omstead/Vaux design, the gates date from the 1925 reconstruction of the Erie Canal to create the New York State Barge Canal. The Canal is part of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
