Title
2009T709 Post Medieval Silver Toilet Implement
Description
English: Specialist Report

Description: Silver toilet accessory comprising a quadrangular shaft ending in sharp tip. The other end with crudely shaped terminal with moulding and leaf decoration on each side, ending in an ear scoop.

Length: 87.5 mm Width: 6.5 mm Thickness: 5.9 mm Weight: 6.66 g

Discussion: The terminal is reminiscent of the kind seen on 16th Century spoons and might help to date this object, which is likely to be 16th or perhaps early 17th Century. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Dr Dora Thornton The British Museum
