Description
Deutsch: 11.05.2006 01069 Dresden, Prager Straße: Blick nach Norden. Im Vordergrund die 1986 von Wolf-Eike Kuntsche geschaffenen Edelstahlplastik "Völkerfreundschaft" (GMP: 51.044623,13.735720). Dahinter der DDR-Gastronomiebau "International" (GMP: 51.045079,13.735515). Im Gebäude waren im Obergeschoß das Restaurant Wroclaw, im Erdgeschoß eine Selbstbedienungsgaststätte und in der Nordwestecke des Komplexes eine Goldbroiler-Bar. Dahinter das Centrum Warenhauses (GMP: 51.045821,13.735333) mit der Wabenfassade der ungarischen Architekten Ferenc Simon und Ivan Fokvari. Das Centrum Warenhaus, wegen seiner Fassade liebevoll Silberwürfel genannt, gehörte einst zu den schönsten Einkaufstempeln der DDR. Im März 1970 wurde der Grundstein gelegt, im Oktober 1978 war Einweihung. Der Bau war eine sowjetisch-ungarisch-deutsche Kooperation. Je Etage hatte das Haus 4500 m2 Verkaufsfläche. Nach der Wende hat Hertie, dann Karstadt das Haus übernommen. Letztlich wird der Abriß beschlossen. Am 30.06.2006 schließt der Silberwürfel für immer seine Tore.
