Summary[edit]
Description1961 Singer Gazelle Series IIIC (24293040649).jpg |
The Gazelle was built from 1956-67 and was a version of the mainstream Hillman Minx differing mainly in retaining the Singer overhead cam engine. Externally the only significant difference was a restyled nose based around a traditional Singer grille. Available in 4 door Saloon, 2 door Convertible and from 1957, Estate. Just before the release of the Series III, the 1958 Series IIa's engine was changed to the standard 1494cc Hillman pushrod overhead valve engine replacing the Singer overhead cam unit. The Series III was built from 1958-63. It got better seats than the IIA. The big change was with the 1959 IIIA, it got twin carbys (previously single), a larger windscreen, tail fins and 'eyebrows' over the headlamps. The 1960 IIIB reverted back to the single carby And the 1961 IIIC got the larger 1592cc engine The convertible and estate were discontinued in 1962 |
