Description

Riley 2½-litre RMF 1½-litre RME Saloon 1954
Points of recognition: spats, no running boards, fog/driving lights in valance, sidelights faired in to top of new-shape "helmet" front mudguards, vertical scuttle ventilator, etc.

Chassis no RM22170 RME22170, engine number RMA12359 according to Victoria registration authorities.

The RM series were the last cars developed by Riley, There were just two postwar RM body-shapes. The second shape was for the RMH 2.443 which was announced in October 1953 to replace the obsolescent RMF with its pre-war traditional sports saloon body. This pretty 2443cc RMH used up-to-date "Italian" style Wolseley coachwork over genuinely Riley chassis/mechanicals.
It was soon replaced by the 2.6 which was pure Wolseley with no more than a Riley badge. All later cars were badge engineered upmarket BMC saloons.

The first body-shape was used for the 1945 1500cc RMA and 2500cc RMB. They were replaced in 1952 by the 1500cc RME and 2500cc RMF. The new for '52 models got a larger back window and full front bumper. The larger engine RMB got a longer bonnet. The RMH Pathfinder replaced the RMF in late 1953. For 1954 the old body, as in the above illustration, continued for the smaller engine but with minor face-lift amendments.

In 1948 the RMC convertible with scalloped doors was introduced, replaced in 1949 by the RMD, more of a drophead coupe convertible.

Engines:
RMB, RMC, RMD, RMF, RMH — 2443cc 4 cyl twin cam Engine (a famous engine like Jaguar XK)
RMA, RME — 1496cc 4 cyl twin cam
