Description

1928 DuPont Model G Merrimac 5-passenger Dual Cowl Phaeton #G801.

This is the first Model G built

Du Pont Motors was founded by E. Paul du Pont to produce marine engines for the Allied nations in World War I. After the war, the Du Pont Motor Company produced extremely high-end automobiles. Between 1919 and 1931, Du Pont produced only 537 automobiles. The first car produced was the 1919 Model A, the second, the 1920 Model B, the 1923 Model C, 1925 Model D and 1927 Model E. Only 3 Model Fs were made

In 1928, duPont introduced their first 8 cyl engine and their Model G. All of the Model G bodies were hand built using white ash frames covered with aluminum panels. The Model G was available as a phaeton, coupe, sedan, Victoria, limousine, sport, and convertible. Coachbuilders were given the opportunity to great the elegant bodies for this ultra-luxury vehicles, such as Merrimac, Derham, and Waterhouse.
