The country of origin of this photograph is Italy. It is in the public domain there because its copyright term has expired. According to Law for the Protection of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights n.633, 22 April 1941 and later revisions, images of people or of aspects, elements and facts of natural or social life, obtained with photographic process or with an analogue one, including reproductions of figurative art and film frames of film stocks (Art. 87) are protected for a period of 20 years from creation (Art. 92). This provision shall not apply to photographs of writings, documents, business papers, material objects, technical drawings and similar products (Art. 87). Italian law makes an important distinction between "works of photographic art" and "simple photographs" (Art. 2, § 7). Photographs that are "intellectual work with creative characteristics" are protected for 70 years after the author's death (Art. 32 bis), whereas simple photographs are protected for a period of 20 years from creation.

Carissimo babbo, ho ricevuta la letterina di Tino con molto piacere, e così pure ho gradite le tue notizie ed il ritratto della mamma; sarei anzi contento di avere anche un ritratto tuo, dell'Ornella e di Tino. Tino ringrazialo molto, molto per gli auguri e per la sua bella letterina che ho proprio molto gradita, ricambiali poi gli auguri.

In merito all'assegno fa come ti sembra meglio, puoi benissimo inviarlo a me , io dopo averlo girato te lo rispedisco; è un affare semplicissimo. Dammi notizie della rivoltella informandomi se ancora non ti è arrivata, cosicchè io possa scrivere in proposito allo spedizioniere.

Sulla mia situzione futura non posso ancora darti notizie precise, non so bene quando partirò di qui. Ti scriverò poi in proposito non appena sappia qualcosa di positivo. Grazie dei saluti di Agostini e di sua sorella, contraccambiali. Costa ringrazia dei saluti; a Bologna fai pure gli auguri e i saluti per me a tutti quelli che li desiderassero, io ho pensato bene di non scrivere a nessuno e così ho poi fatto; mi sembra una cosa abbastanza inutile. Continuo a star bene, l'anno l'ho incominciato abbastanza bene, e spero che così continuerà. Tu come stai? Come va l'anno nuovo?
