| Description |
English: The Orpheum and Lyric Theaters on North Sixth Street, about 1910. During this era, the Orpheum was a Vaudeville theater with live stage acts. In 1920 it would be renamed as the State Theater and begin showing silent, and later sound films in the 1930s. It became a causality to the post World War II television age and was torn down in 1954.
The Lyric was originally a market hall built in the late 1880s. It was converted into a Burlesque theater in the early 1900s. It would occasionally show silent films in the 1910s but later become a live stage performance theater when The Strand theater on North Eighth Street opened about 1917. The Lyric later become a classical music orchestra theater in the 1950s. |
