Summary[edit]

Description
English: November 16, 1898 Spanish-American War Veterans Parade in front of the Commonwealth Building, 500 block of Hamilton Street. Also visible is the Eastern Light Building, both are on the south side of Hamilton Street. Lehigh County volunteers for the Spanish-American war were assigned to companies B and D, 4th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

The Lehigh County volunteers were organized in early May 1898. After training, they were sent to Puerto Rico where they engaged in several battles with Spanish Forces around the towns of Arroyo and Guayama during the entire month of August. They returned to New York City in September, and were finally discharged from further military service in November.

During the regiment's term of service, it lost 3 officers and 32 men to disease. Three additional men were disabled. A plaque commemorating their service in the Spanish American war was placed at the Old Lehigh County Courthouse. The plaque was dedicated by the Daughters of the American Revolution, Liberty Bell Chapter, on 16 November 1904.
