Description
English: From the source,

Pencil and wash drawing by Thomas and William Daniell of a temple and choultry (a travellers' rest house) at Binjaveram in Tamil Nadu, dated 18 April 1792. Inscribed on back in ink: 'Nr 74. Brinjaveram Choultry and Pagoda.'

From March 1792 to February 1793 the Daniells travelled through South India. Arrived in Madras, they travelled south-west trough the flat paddy fields, passed the rocky hills surrounding Arcot and the dramatic hilly country south of Bangalore. They visited the great Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu and continued until the southern tip of the peninsula. At that time the Tinnevelly district was still unmapped and unadministered by the British. The artists often spent the nights in travellers' rest houses, known in South India as 'choultry'.
