"The American Magazine and Historical Chronicle began publication in 1743 with James Turner's view of Boston from the North End to Fort Hill as its headpiece. The newly built Faneuil Hall is included in this view. The Indian and the palm tree had been symbols of the colony of Massachusetts since the seventeenth century and appeared on the earliest coins and paper money issued."
