Cicadas are the oversized puppies of the insect world. Even if you hate bugs, you can't possibly be grossed-out by these big guys. They don't bite or sting, and they leave their nymphal husks on the trees after they emerge with their new wings. When some types of Cicadas first emerge from their nymphal husks, they are paler in color (I didn't know that until today). I thought this one was an albino, but that wasn't the case. He'll darken up as he ages. I was walking my kids to the bus stop when my youngest son noticed this "white" cicada on the recycling bin. He made me promise to take lots of photos so that he could look at them after school. We didn't want to disturb the Cicada, since he was still drying out and probably feeling a little naked. |
