Summary[edit]

Description
English: La Salle, 1678, is presenting his petition to the King for rights to explore the Mississippi, thought to be the River of de Soto. The region of Chicago, being the continental watershed, was the gateway to the River of de Soto. In 1684, La Salle's achievements were immortalized on the 1684 Franquelin map of North America (Amerique Septentrionale).
