Title
15th century copper-alloy button
Description
English:
A complete copper-alloy cast one-piece button with integral drilled shank, of Medieval date c.15th century.

Description:
The button is discoidal, solid and slightly plano-convex. It is decorated on the front with a centrally punched dot/hole around which is a single concentric circle has been incised. There is minor abrasion around part of the button circumference. The shank survives intact and is roughly reactangular with a large roughly drilled suspension loop. The back of the button is undecorrated but roughly and poorly finished. The button is a dark brown colour.
Measurements: 24.96mm in diameter, 13.2mm thick (inc shank, 2.12mm thick disc of the button) and 8.04g in weight,

Discussion:

Probably 15th century in date, although this style of shank does extend into the 18th century (Read 2005, 11 no. 24).
