JPEG file comment | UNKNOWN MASTER, German
(active 1450s in Cologne) Madonna on a Crescent Moon in Hortus Conclusus 1450s Oak, 95 x 62 cm Staatliche Museen, Berlin This image represents an unusual combination of the Woman of the Apocalypse and a Madonna of Humility. The Madonna is shown seated in an enclosed garden, with male and female donors in suitably humble small scale to the lower left and right. The painter of this panel is referred to as the Master of 1456.
