Description 127-GW-756-102040: Battle of Peleliu (Operation Stalemate), September-November 1944. Warned! Warned by the large sign of the presence of sniper fire on this section of the Peleliu Island road, the Marines draw their pistols and assume an alert attitude as they go through the dangerous area. Sign reads, “Danger / Sniper Fire Along / Road Next Mile / Keep Moving / No Parking on the Road.” Photographed by Fitzgerald, October 12, 1944.
