Summary[edit]

Description
English: Looking north-northwest at the Charles Lundwall Building (123-125 W. Main Street), in Bozeman, Montana.

Charles Lundwall financed this structure (the one with the green awning) in 1905 to house his plumbing supply business. He was so successful that he moved out into larger quarters in 1910, and a paint store moved in. It became the William Davis and Hiram F. West funeral home in 1913. West bought out Davis in 1918, and added an ambulance service. West served as County Coronor from 1925 to 1929, and operated the county morgue from here. John Lovelace's Montana Motor Supply moved into the building in 1931.

William K. Shamanoff purchased the property in 1936 and omnipresent Bozeman architect Fred Willson redesigned the first floor in an Art Deco design prior to its occupation by Bill’s Grill. Willson also converted the second floor into apartments. Thankfully, the pressed-tin ceilings and the 1936 diner furnishings remain almost intact.

In 1998-1999, the first floor was renovated to restore it to the 1905 original brickwork design.

The Lundwall Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 4, 2001.
