Description121204-A-ZZ999-393 (8247036931).jpg | U.S. Service members supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency's mission to allow access to flooded homes, pump up to a million gallons of water per day in Breezy Point, Queens, N.Y., Dec. 4, 2012, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The team, under the direction of the U.S. Army's 19th Engineer Battalion, consisted of more than 600 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. They worked in coordination with area emergency responders and officials to allow access and speed recovery efforts in New York. Hurricane Sandy formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and The Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
