| Description |
English: With a total order of 75 unit ordered from Stadler (41 in traffic by July 2016), these are the ubiquitous FLIRT EMUs seen in many European countries. They owned by Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy a subsidiary of the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen plus the VR Group. The units are leased to HSL= Helsingin seudun liikenne (Helsinki Regional Transport Authority but due to VR Group's passenger transport monopoly on Finnish railways, VR operates the trains.
These are employed on the the frequent services from Helsinki including the new airport loop opened in 2015. Seen here are units 21 and 46 on train HL9025 07:49 Helsinki to Helsinki taking the anti-clockwise direction. Trains are always advertised to the airport in both directions and as such provide a 5-minute interval service with 6 trains in each direction per hour. Photo taken 12 July 2016. |
