11th century stirrup mount
Description
English: A complete copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount, dating from the 11th century of Williams Class B, type 4.

The mount is roughly rectangular in plan with scalloped edges a trilobate apex, a main body with animal masked and a pierced flange at a 45 degree angle. The Animal mask dominates the main body of the mount and is ovoid wider at the crown and pointed at the bottom, with clearly defined eyes, snub noses and pointed triangular ears. There are two rivet holes at the top abutting the ears, there is a 2nd group of rivet hiles on the flange. All the rivet holes have corroded iron rivets in place. The back of the mount is undeccorated and slightly concave. The entire mount is pitted, slightly corroded and abraded around the edges. The mount is mottled various shades of brown and green.

Measurements: 40.6mm high, 27.76mm wide, 14.7mm thick and 40.65g in weight.
