Description
English: Children and adults gathered in front of 1022 Russell Avenue, at the southeast corner of Russell Avenue and Menard Street. The Charles Bouska Buffet is pictured at the intersection. Many immigrants settled in Soulard in the 1830s and 1840s as they sought to escape the political and economic upheaval in their home countries of Germany, Serbia, Italy, Syria, Croatia, and Hungary.
