Description |
English: White paper with typed black text and a handwritten signature June 28, 1971 Mr. Jerry Schober, Superintendent Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania My dear Mr. Schober: I am returning herewith the Dedication Booklet entitled, “Georgia Dedicates Memorials to Honored Dead at Antietam and Gettysburg”. This very helpful book was loaned to us by Mr. Emery, through Miss Angela Gregory. You will notice that Mrs. L. Cary Bittick is pictured in a group around the monument on one of the pages with other important people. I want to extend my sincere thanks to you and to Mr. Emery for his kindness to loan us this book. You will notice that it is somewhat similar because there were two monuments unveiled and they had more persons accepting the monuments. I really wanted you to receive the monument for the Park at Gettysburg. However, I was over-ruled by the Commission members because they thought it would make the program too long. Did you like the salute to the Louisiana Flag which I gave or did you hear it? I think the Governor will make it the official salute to the Louisiana Flag. Mrs. Bachman, who is now Past President General, United Daughters of the Confederacy, is one of the finest people I know and you will notice that her appearance adds lustre to any ceremonial program such as ours. I may have one or two other brooklets which I loaned to the Governor for his help in preparing how own speech and, when they returned, I shall be happy to mail them back to you. I think I told you in my last letter that he had asked me to do a “Book of Memories” for him and I would like to have a letter for you to place in this book. Just say whatever is in your heart. This book, evidently will be handed to the library when Governor McKeithen goes out of office and I want it to be authentic. Do you have one or more books of our historical material? We thoroughly enjoyed the talk by your historian and the banquet held by the Washington Artillery Veterans, Assoc., Inc. If I can be of any service to you, please feel free to call upon me. Mr. Gibson’s absence shocked me and I don’t believe I have recovered from it yet. I had not known that he was not planning to come. This left more details for you and for all of us. However, your staff were “darling angels” and everything was perfect as far as you’re concerned. When you come back to Mississippi, don’t forget to visit me here in Kentwood. With best wishes, I am, Sincerely yours, [Signed] Mrs. Clarence R. Letteer, Chairman La. Gettysburg Memorial Commission
