February 25, 1967 General Donald A. Ramsay, Commander The Confederate High Command 944 Percy Warner Boulevard Nashville, Tennessee Dear General Ramsay: For several years the Shiloh Trail Committee has endeavored to secure monuments at Shiloh which would represent every state which had military units in that great battle, and during this time we have seen only one such monument erected by the state of Texas – one of the states which previously had no state marker on the battle field. We have also stressed the need for the erection of state monuments on all other major Civil War battlefields from which they are missing. Consequently, we heartily endorse the plans of The Confederate High Command for the erection of a Tennessee at Gettysburg to honor the Tennessee Regiments which fought there. This project is especially worthy since it is to be financed by public donations rather than the use of State tax funds. We hope that all Tennesseans will support this project and especially that all important Confederate Memorial organizations such as the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans will take this opportunity to again remember the gallant men from our State who participated in the climatic battle of our Country’s greatest struggle. Sincerely yours, H. Kenneth Humphreys, Chairman Shiloh Military Trail Incorporated
