WASHINGTON (Feb. 12, 2009) Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Ronald S. Coleman, left, deputy commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Army Gen. William E. "Kip" Ward, commander of Africa Command (AFRICOM), and Vice Adm. Mel Williams, commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet, pose after receiving awards honoring their military achievements while attending the Flag Officer Reception in recognition of the annual Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, created with the support of Justice Marshall in 1993, provides assistance in the form of merit-based scholarships to students attending historically Black public colleges or universities.
