Description
English: Pursuant to a decision by President Bush, the United States has reopened the United States Embassy in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. At 4:00 PM local time on October 16, Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Walter Kansteiner, and United States Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea George M. Staples held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Chancery building. Ambassador Staples, who resides in Yaounde, Cameroon, will remain the accredited Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, while Chargé d'Affaires A. James Panos will reside in Malabo to represent the United States.
