055447 crossbow brooch
Description
English: Roman copper alloy crossbow brooch, 72mm long and 51mm wide. The brooch is intact with a brown patina and weighs 29.77grams. The brooch consists of a hexagonal sectioned arm which has angular rounded terminals. The bow has a triangular section and terminates with another angular roundel. The bow follows a semi-circular course and becomes square in section where it joins the catchplate. This is contained within a square sectioned shaft and the pin is accomodated by a tapering slit down one side.
