04A086 anglo-saxon copper alloy brooch fragment
Description
English: Anglo-Saxon copper alloy brooch fragment, 57mm long and 38mm wide. The object is in fair condition with a dark green patina. It represents the lower part of a cruciform brooch and consists of a shaft with a T shaped upper edge. Attached to the top of this are the remains of the bow. The shaft has horizontal bands of decoration at equal intervals down its length. The first consists of two incised lines and the next two are raised collars with incised lines bordering each side. Beneath these is a stylised animal head with bulging round eyes which sit above an incised chevron. The reverse has the remains of the catchplate taking up half of its length.
