Title |
020A01. Copper alloy Roman brooch. |
||
Description |
English: Foot and leg only of a bow brooch. Probably from a trumpet type brooch (the decorative style is common on this type). The remaining tapering leg of the bow is D-sectioned and decorated with a central longitudinal row of raised lozenges, flanked by a ridge and groove at each side. The two rows of triangular recesses formed by the central decoration and flanking ridges are quite deep and could have contained enamel. The decoration stops at a lateral groove and ridge. Below this is a forward projecting circular based foot with a a stepped upper part. At the back of the fragment is a small, curving catchplate with a hooked outer edge. 1st to 2nd century. |
