Quadratrix des Hippias als zusätzliches Hilfsmittel[edit]

Würde man den gleichen Ansatz wie beim Elfeck nehmen, d. h. den Umkreisradius zuerst in 257 gleiche Abschnitte teilen und anschließend den vierten Teilungspunkt zur Konstruktion des Mittelpunktswinkels ${\displaystyle \mu }$ nutzen, wäre z. B. bei einem Umkreisradius ${\displaystyle r=100\;mm}$ die Länge eines Abschnittes etwas kleiner als ${\displaystyle 0{,}4\;mm}$. Eine praktikable Alternative ist die nebenstehende Konstruktion. Sie ist auch mit realem Zirkel, Lineal und z. B. mit der Quadratrix als Schablone (ähnlich einem Kurvenlineal) auf einem Blatt Papier darstellbar. Mithilfe der Quadratrix wird in diesem Fall nicht zuerst der 1. Eckpunkt ${\displaystyle E_{1}}$ des 257-Ecks gesucht, sondern der 16. Eckpunkt ${\displaystyle E_{16}}$. Der Eckpunkt ${\displaystyle E_{16}}$ lässt sich auf folgende Art und Weise finden.

Für den Mittelpunktswinkel ${\displaystyle \mu }$ des Kreisausschnittes ${\displaystyle OE_{257}E_{16}}$ gilt

${\displaystyle \mu =16\cdot {\frac {360^{\circ }}{257}}=22{,}41245...^{\circ }}$,

mit Berücksichtigung des Mittelpunktswinkels ${\displaystyle 90^{\circ }}$ des Viertelkreises erhält man

${\displaystyle {\frac {1}{\mu }}\cdot 90^{\circ }={\frac {257\cdot 90^{\circ }}{16\cdot 360^{\circ }}}=4{\frac {1}{64}}=4{,}015625.}$

Diese Dezimalzahl ist mithilfe des dritten Strahlensatzes mit Zirkel und Lineal konstruierbar

Die Länge der Strecke ${\displaystyle {\overline {OM}}}$ in Längeneinheiten [LE], sprich der Abstand vom Mittelpunkt ${\displaystyle O}$ des Umkreises bis zum Funktionspunkt ${\displaystyle M}$ errechnet sich aus

${\displaystyle {\overline {OM}}={\frac {\mu }{90^{\circ }}}={\frac {16\cdot 360^{\circ }}{257\cdot 90^{\circ }}}={\frac {64}{257}}={\frac {1}{4{,}015625}}=0{,}249027\ldots }$ [LE]

Der Wert des Quotienten ${\displaystyle {\frac {1}{4{,}015625}}}$ ist ebenso mit Zirkel und Lineal mithilfe des dritten Strahlensatzes konstruierbar.

Die abschließende vierfache Winkelhalbierung erzeugt den Eckpunkt ${\displaystyle E_{1}}$. Somit entspricht der Abstand ${\displaystyle |E_{257}E_{1}|}$ exakt der ersten Seitenlänge des 257-Ecks.
