Major George A. Soper, famous for discovering Typhoid Mary, conducts a post-mortem of the 1918 influenza pandemic less than a year after its peak. He discusses suspected causes, potential remedies, and the unknowns of the plague that may be known to the future. Above all, his warning is that the 1918 flu was not an isolated and unique event. He says the United States will need to learn from the devatation and prepare to face the next pandemic of respiratory disease when the time comes. Pity, that. The Article. Mike Overby (@lethargilistic) reads Amicus Lectio (@AmicusLectio). |
