This report exemplifies your thoroughness in briefly condensing facts; and theWar Department is to be highly congratulated on selecting you for this undertaking,and the National Association of .Vicksburg veterans owe the department warmestgratitude for giving us the priceless value of your connection with this undertakingand thereby relieving me of much of my four years constant application of responsi-bilities and anxiety and expenses in its promotion. Your masterful ingenuity ineconomic executive ability and force in development and utilizing the smaller itemsin greater necessities brought us the success which comrades, who had attended theGettysburg celebration and most of kindred functions, say there never was one so H.
