Caros amigos, Inicio hoje a publicação de um conjunto de fotos respeitantes à cidade de Elvas, localizada no distrito de Portalegre, Alentejo, e que dista de Espanha cerca de 12 kms. Elvas, carateriza-se pelas suas muralhas e fortificações, que fazem dela uma autêntica cidade-museu e traduzem a sua própria história. Foi “tomada aos árabes em 1166 por D. Afonso Henriques, foi perdida depois; reconquistada em 1200 por D. Sancho I, novamente voltou ao poder dos muçulmanos; D. Sancho II retomou-a em 1226, abandonando-a logo a seguir, mas em 1229, ano em que lhe concedeu foral, ficou definitivamente encorporada no território português”. É mais uma cidade, do “meu Alentejo”, que aconselho a visitar para apreciarem os seus monumentos, a sua beleza e também a sua singular gastronomia Boa semana Um abraço Celestino Manuel “Aqueduto O Aqueduto da Amoreira aparece-nos sempre, em parceria com as fortificações, como o grande símbolo de Elvas. A sua construção deveu-se aos problemas de abastecimento de água que a cidade há muito padecia. É uma obra com 7054 metros da amoreira até à muralha, percorre depois 450 metros até à fonte da vila, no Largo da Misericórdia onde a água jorrou pela primeira vez em 1622. Os 1113 metros que leva a percorrer o vale de S. Francisco são efectivamente de grande beleza. Quatro ordens de arcos com 31 metros de altura, suportados por contrafortes e gigantes de várias formas. Chega a ter galerias subterrâneas a passar pelos 6 metros de profundidade. Tem em todo o seu percurso 843 arcos. A seguir a Francisco de Arruda a direcção das obras passou por Afonso Álvares, Diogo Marques e Pêro Vaz Pereira. Foi uma obra onerosa e demorada.
