Description
Deutsch: In Hamburg St.Georg wurde 1841 von Carl August Schmidt eine Kupferschmiede gegründet, die sich als Zulieferer für den Schiffbau als auch für Gerb- und Farbstoffhersteller in Hamburg bewährte. Mit dem Eintritt der Söhne wurde das Werk auch mit der Herstellung von (Kriegs-)Marine-Bedarfsartikeln, sowie Großapparaten und Kesseln der Chemie-Industrie (Destilliergeräte, Trinkwasseraufbereitungsanlagen, Gefriertechnik für Lagerhäuser) zum Marktführer. Die Firma entwickelt und baute um 1910 auch Rohrpostanlagen für Geschäftskunden und Banken in Hamburg. Firmeniederlassungen befanden sich in allen deutschen Hafenstädten sowie in Konstantinopel, Buenos Aires, Genua, Wien, Kopenhagen und Valpariso.
