right in ink:
松風やち𛃼をう𛃰み𛂙
蔦𛂜紅葉〱
[Though not yet
winds through the pines
blow all around
and I dread they'll scatter
the crimson leaves of ivy.]
poem in black
The poem is written from vertically from right to left. (NB that the artist uses two single-character-sized kunojiten iteration marks (〱). These should not be used in horizontal text.)
In contemporary standard Japanese orthography, the inscription reads:
松風やちるをうらみの
蔦の紅葉々
The poem with line breaks to reflect correct tanka poetic form is:
我秋ならぬ
松風や
ちるをうらみの
蔦の紅葉々
In romaji, it reads:
Kakaru-shimo
waga aki naranu
matsukaze-ya
chiru-(w)o urami-no
tsuta-no momijiba
