中文（臺灣）：日治時期，臺灣總督府於1920年重新劃分台灣地方行政轄區，在中部地區設置臺中州，管轄臺中市、大屯郡、豐原郡、東勢郡、大甲郡、彰化郡、員林郡、北斗郡、南投郡、能高郡、新高郡與竹山郡等，即今臺中市，彰化縣與南投縣之範圍。臺中市由於係州治所在，機關林立，人口聚集，成為中部地區政治經濟文化的中心。
