中文（臺灣）：本文描述因臺灣地理位置的獨特性，造就了臺灣本土的生態與文化歷史的多元化，並透過移民與殖民史的角度，來觀察臺灣歷史的發展。
本文共分2個部分，一為冰河期的歐亞大陸動植物，簡述臺灣島嶼的形成與地質環境，促成物種的多樣性與獨特性，如臺灣鱒魚、山椒魚、臺灣獼猴等特有種；二為人類的大移民潮，針對有關人類移民活動，透過考古的器物與遺址，探討諸多歐亞大陸人類的生活模式與遷徙空間，如左鎮人、舊新石器等文化，以及南島語族的遷移，並形成臺灣的平埔族與高山族兩大族群。早期漢人族群的移民，不僅使移墾社會轉化為定居社會，其與平埔族的互動與同化，更漸漸形成具有「漢化」與「平埔化」的臺灣多樣文化。到了後期，戰後政府遷臺，促使外省族群的移入，該群體從原先保持著舊有的大中國意識，因在本省人的交流互動下，該意識逐漸淡化，而彼此融合為一。 綜言上述，本篇透過生物學、人類學與歷史學的角度來觀察臺灣移民與動植物交流下的過程，並從中體現出臺灣文化的多元化的重要性。 |
