中文（臺灣）：本文爬梳清代方志與日治時期原住民族調查報告，從「半路竹」的地名考證切入，探討路竹鄉的開發史。
歷來認為路竹鄉源於「半路竹」，而「絆」同「半」，意為此地的竹子經常絆倒路人而得名，但此說法純屬穿鑿附會。另一說法認為「半路竹」應是「半路‧竹」，意為路竹聚落位於大湖與岡山之間，但路竹聚落早於大湖與岡山前建立，故此說也不成立。「半路」是指平埔族大傑顛社的大社與下社之半途，故「半路竹」是由大傑顛社平埔族語地名轉譯而來。明鄭時期漢人進入半路竹開墾，將此地名意譯後沿用，並開墾鄰近地域，成為後來的三鎮庄、三爺庄、北嶺旗庄、左協庄、前阿庄以及竹滬庄等。康熙33年半路竹就成為鳳山的重要市集。 從上述可知，半路竹的地名意涵是指兩地之間無誤，但非指大湖與岡山之間，而是大傑顛社的大社與下社之間。漢人到此地後，沿用此地名，以半路竹為中心開墾，逐漸延伸到外沿地域。 |
