Русский: Спутник «Молния-1» был разработан в ОКБ-1 Государственного комитета по оборонной технике в 1961 году.
Главным конструктором проектов космических систем связи «Молния-1» «Молния-2», «Корунд» (1969 г.), «Кулон» (1973 г.), был заместитель генерального директора по науке МНИИРС Мурад Рашидович Капланов. Разработка системы спутниковой связи СССР началась в 1961 году по инициативе и под руководством Главного конструктора ОКБ-1 Сергея Королёва. Для первого советского спутника связи «Молния-1» была выбрана высокоэллиптическая орбита. При наклоне 65 градусов (что определялось местом старта) апогей орбиты имел высоту 40 000 км над северным полушарием, а перигей – 400 км над южным. Такая орбита обеспечивала длительность связи между Москвой и Владивостоком в течение 8-9 часов.
