Determining chlorides in water by the Mohr method

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The chlorides make up a great part of the anions found in the natural waters. Their amount should not exceed 200 mg/l. The chlorides in a water sample are easily determined by the Mohr method. The water sample is titrated with silver nitrate and the chlorides bond with it and form a silver chloride precipitate. Potassium chromate is added as indicator to the Erlenmeyer flask. The end of the reaction is determined by the slight red color given by the silver chromate (as shown in the picture).
