Summary[edit]

Description

Viatkosuchus sumini.

English: Head of field unit of D. Sumin gives an interview during the excavations of the Kotelnich for the location of Paleozoic tetrapods

As a result of the work of the joint detachment of the "Stone Flower" cooperative and the Palaeontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), one of the largest faunas of the Upper Perm terrestrial four-legged animals was found in the red-colored strata of the Kotelnichiča site. The number of representatives is now approaching 15 genera.

In connection with the contribution to the study of Paleozoic terrestrial vertebrates in honor of the cooperative's employees, some of the forms found in Kotelnicheska - Karenites ornamentatus, Suminia getmanovi and Viatkosuchus sumini - were described.

Prior to the Kotelnicheska works, skeletons of poor preservation of some forms, close to the representatives of this fauna, were known from the Carrus formation, South Africa. As a result of excavations in Kotelnica, complete skeletons of almost perfect preservation were found and the variety of known forms was considerably expanded.
