UNMIL: National contingent takes part in ceremony of celebration of International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers Sunday, May 29. LIBERIA — The Ukrainian military of the 56th Detached Helicopter Unit (DHU) of the UNMIL joined the ceremonies on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. Special Representative of the Secretary General Farid Zarif and Liberia’s Defence Minister Brownie J. Samukai laid wreaths in honour of peacekeepers having lost their lives in Liberia at a ceremony to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers at the Monrovia headquarters of the United Nations Mission in Liberia. “The sacrifice, peacekeepers have made, should not and will not go in vain. Thanks to them, we have the future in our country,” Minister Samukai said. Українські військові зі складу 56 окремого вертолітного загону Місії ООН у Ліберії долучилися до урочистостей з нагоди Міжнародного дня миротворців ООН, котрі відбулися у штабі Місії в Монровії. В цей день вітають не лише тих хто виконує або виконував миротворчі завдання під блакитним прапором ООН, але й вшановують усіх, хто віддав своє життя у боротьбі за справу миру. У пам’ять про них Спеціальний представник генерального секретаря ООН у Ліберії Фарід Заріф та Міністр оборони Республіки Бровні Самукай поклали вінки. Містер Бровні Самукай також розповів, що завдяки миротворцям ООН у країни з’явилася надія на краще майбутнє. Все чого Ліберія досягла — так чи інакше пов’язано з діяльністю блакитних шоломів. За словами урядовця, вагомий внесок, котрий Організація Об’єднаних Націй зробила у розвиток ліберійської нації ніколи не буде забутий. На церемонії Україну представляла прапороносна група військовослужбовців 56 окремого вертолітного загону. Завершились урочистості підняттям прапору ООН та національного стягу Республіки Ліберія.
